Mattei Fortress

The “Rocchetta Mattei” owes its name to Count Cesare Mattei (1809-1896).

The structure of the castle was modified several times by the count during his lifetime and by his heirs, making it a labyrinth of towers, monumental staircases, reception rooms, and private rooms that recall different styles.

The park of the lakes

The artificial lakes of Suviana and Brasimone are surrounded by beech and coniferous forests, ideal for hiking, mountain biking, and water sports such as sailing and boating.

Located in the municipality of Grizzana Morandi, it is known for the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of Consolation and the Oratory of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, both dating back to the 13th century.

The area offers scenic trails surrounded by hornbeam and chestnut forests, ideal for cultural and nature excursions.

Ant Mountain

This relief in the Bolognese Apennines is famous for the Sanctuary of the Madonna of Monte delle Formiche.

It is named for the curious natural phenomenon that occurs every year in September, when swarms of winged ants reach the summit and then die, an event that has taken on symbolic and spiritual significance over time.
